The Shed Philosophy

My name is Will and I have nearly 20 years experience in managing sporting injuries across professional sport,  amateur sport up to Olympic level and for those who simply love being active.

After graduating in 2008 with a degree in Sports Rehabilitation — and a newfound appreciation for early mornings thanks to the Salford Uni Eights — I spent the summer working with Manchester United Soccer Schools at Denstone College. In 2010, I joined Leicester Tigers as a Rehab Coach and pitch‑side medic for the senior squad. Over the next 11 years, I worked closely with Premiership and international players, including British & Irish Lions, supporting their performance and recovery at the highest level. It was here I also completed my MSc in Strength & Conditioning alongside my triathlons (BC - before children).

I later moved into private practice, working with a wide spectrum of athletes — from dedicated amateurs to former professionals. My work has also taken me into the performing arts through a collaboration with Addict Dance Academy, and more recently back into elite sport with the National Badminton team at their Milton Keynes training base.

I established the Performance Shed as I have a passion for getting people back to doing what they love. With the tools gained from my experience in elite sports and with my passion to keep learning, I can help you return to your chosen activity.

If I cant help you, then I will help you find the right person who can, I am in a lucky position to be in contact with a a multi-disciplinary professional network who are at the top of their game.

What I offer

Initial Assessment & Injury Management

Our first appointment will be a 1hour session where we will fully investigate your injury and identify the underlying cause. Following this, you will have a tailored treatment plan to get you back to doing what you love, which may involve a course of manual therapy, evidence-based exercise rehabilitation or a progressive strength and conditioning program.

Treatment

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. What matters is using the right method at the right time. Based on your injury and your sport, we’ll select the most effective techniques to accelerate recovery and support performance. This may include hands-on therapy, specific soft tissue work, and recovery strategies such as cryotherapy. We can also incorporate taping (k-tape), instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation or sports massage to help reduce pain levels, restore movement or prepare you for an upcoming event

Exercise Rehabilitation

Most sporting injuries will need an individualized and tailored rehab program. Whether you have sprained your ankle playing netball, hurt your shoulder in the gym or injured your hip and groin running, we will design an evidence-based and data driven rehabilitation program with specific exercises that target your needs.

Recovery doesn’t start after surgery—it starts before it! If you are awaiting a surgical procedure, preparation is crucial. We focus on maximizing strength, control, and conditioning ahead of your operation, giving you the best possible platform for a faster, more effective post-operative recovery.

Exercise Rehabilitation

It is not only rehab that is vital, prehab is also equally important. If you are awaiting surgery for an injured body part (eg ACL reconstruction), it is crucial that we get you as strong as we can and in the best shape possible going into the operation. That way, the rehab post op can hopefully get started quicker than it would do normally.

Return to sport and beyond

Once you're ready to return to your activity, you will go through a series of objective tests to ensure you are fully ready to return to competition. Once you have returned to your chosen activity, you will have an on-going sustainability program to keep you strong, resilient, and injury-free. This may involve self release techniques, activations prior to playing sport or a comprehensive strength program.

Scrum in Rugby

Maintaining your body is essential to keep performing at a high level. Regular soft tissue release and sports massage can help manage load, reduce tightness and keep you training consistently. It is also important to try and identify any potential injuries before they occur, an injury prevention screen can highlight any weaknesses or imbalances so we can address them before they impact your training or performance.

Recovery stories

Julie, equestrian athlete and skier

"After months of incorrect medical advice and unecessary treatment I found Will! He quickly assessed my condition and could explain it to me in simple terms. He has got me back from almost giving up on exercise to doing what I love (horse riding and skiing). I cant thank him enough and have reccommended him to friends."

Dave, recreational badminton player

"I cant recommend Will highly enough! I came in with persistent knee pain that was keeping me off court and making daily movement a struggle. From the first session, Will was incredibly thorough, pinpointing the exact cause of pain and setting up a clear plan to recovery. With the combination of manual therapy and recommending a muscle stim machine, after only 4 weeks I was back to playing badminton pain free. If you're looking for someone who truly gets results, look no further!."

Judith, Chair WVCC

I am very glad that I found Will! His professionalism and skill, coupled with his warm hearted open approach has really helped me overcome the frustration I was experiencing as a cyclist. With encouragement and a range of exercises that I can readily complete at home, Will has enabled me to make progress and achieve more. This is progress that is not just obvious to me but to those I cycle with too. Thank you Will.

Charlotte, league tennis player

I've been treated by Will for over 10 years for various sports-related injuries, including lower back and shoulder issues. His knowledge, professionalism and practical approach has helped keep me active through marathons and league tennis. I highly recommend him to anyone who understands sport.
